These terms cover Drift’s consumer website, help centre and Drift beta, including general information, situation guides, saved summaries and migration-lawyer matching.
1. Who provides Drift
The service is provided by Drift Solutions UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Berliner Straße 69, 13189 Berlin, Germany, registered at Amtsgericht Charlottenburg under HRB 274788 B. Contact: [email protected]. Further company information is in our Imprint.
Drift’s migration initiative has a public-interest purpose. The company operating the service is not a registered charity.
2. Using Drift
Drift is an AI assistant. It helps you understand general information about German immigration from publicly accessible sources, organise the situation you describe and find an independent migration lawyer when you need or want one.
Drift is not a law firm. Drift does not assess your individual legal entitlement, choose a legal remedy for you, represent you or submit applications, letters or court documents. Individual legal advice and representation are provided by the lawyer you engage.
AI-generated explanations and summaries can contain mistakes or omit relevant details. You can correct what Drift has understood in the chat. Keep track of official correspondence and dates; Drift does not monitor or protect legal deadlines on your behalf.
The beta may change as we improve it. If Drift cannot provide a supported answer, the conversation may be referred to the Drift team for review. This is product support, not legal representation or an emergency response service.
3. Situation guides and summaries
Guides explain possible services and how they work. A displayed step does not mean that it is necessary in your case or that you have ordered it. For example, an Erstberatung is an initial consultation, an anwaltliche Sachstandsanfrage asks for a status update, and an anwaltliches Aufforderungsschreiben requests action. The lawyer assesses which work is appropriate and agrees its scope with you.
Saved details reflect what you have told Drift. You can review and correct a summary before approving it for sharing. Approval to share is separate from choosing a lawyer or booking a consultation. The current beta does not automatically email your summary or contact a lawyer on your behalf.
4. Lawyer profiles and matching
Drift uses the confirmed jurisdiction and city, relevant expertise, consultation language and checked availability to identify a suitable connected lawyer. It asks for an email address before showing a match. You can use general information and browse the directory without providing an email for matching.
The directory also contains public-source profiles whose participation has not been confirmed. These are labelled accordingly and are not available for booking or automatic matching through Drift. A listing or suggestion does not establish a lawyer-client relationship.
Lawyers remain independent. They decide whether to accept your matter, carry out professional checks and are responsible for their advice and legal work. You may decline a match or choose a lawyer yourself.
5. Costs, calendars and booking
Drift’s consumer information and matching tools are free to use. Lawyers pay a small platform fee; Drift does not receive a commission on their legal fees.
Lawyer services are charged separately. Before booking, check the named provider, service scope, total price, any tax information and payment schedule displayed for that specific offer. There is no single consultation price or letter package that applies to every lawyer.
Calendly or TidyCal may host the booking form. Availability can change. Opening a calendar or seeing a proposed time does not reserve an appointment; use the booking provider’s confirmation to check the result.
A first consultation does not automatically include ongoing representation, a letter or court proceedings. Any additional work requires an agreement with the lawyer. Government charges, court fees and other third-party costs are included only if the offer expressly says so. A service purchase does not promise an authority’s decision, processing time or legal outcome.
For cancellation, rescheduling and refunds, the conditions presented for the specific lawyer service and mandatory consumer rights apply. Any applicable statutory withdrawal rights remain unaffected. Drift does not set a universal cancellation deadline for independent lawyers.
6. Your information and optional microphone
Describe your situation using only what is needed. Do not include identity documents, full addresses, case numbers, health details or other sensitive information in chat. Do not submit another person’s information without a lawful basis. Automated filtering can miss details.
The microphone is optional. You can record a short message, review the transcript, edit it and send it yourself. Cloudflare processes audio for transcription before text filtering can take place. Drift does not store recordings. The current processing details, retention periods and access, export and deletion controls are explained in About Drift & your privacy and the Privacy policy.
These terms do not constitute consent to marketing, optional processing or sharing a case summary. Where separate consent is needed, it is requested separately.
7. Fair and secure use
Use Drift lawfully. Do not impersonate someone else, submit content you are not entitled to use, harass others, attempt unauthorised access or deliberately disrupt the service. We may apply proportionate security limits or restrict use where necessary to address abuse or protect the service. Contact the Drift team if you believe a restriction was applied incorrectly.
8. Your content
You retain your rights in the content you provide. You allow Drift to process it as necessary to provide the functions you request, subject to the Privacy policy. Submitting a chat does not grant a general licence to publish your story or train models on it. You may save and use your summaries and answers for your own purposes. Linked sources remain subject to their respective rights.
9. Availability and responsibility
We maintain the service and address faults when identified. Features may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance, security reasons or provider outages. Where possible, we will give notice of material interruptions or discontinuation.
Our liability is governed by applicable law. These terms do not exclude or limit statutory liability, including for intent, gross negligence, injury to life, body or health, or rights that cannot be waived. Describing the product as a beta does not remove mandatory consumer rights.
10. Ending use and changes
You may stop using Drift at any time. You can use the available privacy controls to export or delete your saved conversation. Ending a chat or deleting it does not cancel a lawyer booking or terminate a separate legal engagement; contact the relevant provider about those arrangements.
We will date revised terms and make them available here. Material contractual changes will be communicated and agreed where required by law. A new version does not retroactively change an existing lawyer engagement, and silence is not treated as acceptance of a material change.
11. Law, rights and contact
German law applies. If you are a consumer, this does not take away mandatory protections available under the law of your habitual residence where they apply. These terms do not impose an exclusive court on consumers.
Questions or complaints about the product can be sent to [email protected]. For legal advice or an existing legal mandate, contact your lawyer. Statutory consumer dispute-resolution information is available in the Imprint.
