Freedom to
live anywhere.

Immigration law shapes where you can live, work and build a future. Drift helps people understand their options and find the right lawyer.

We believe AI should expand human agency.

Useful support.
More agency.

01

Clear information

A useful place to start with immigration questions. Understand your options before deciding what to do next.

02

Access to the right lawyer

Find an independent immigration lawyer whose expertise and availability fit your situation. Legal advice comes from the lawyer.

03

Free access to Drift AI

People can use Drift AI without paying. Participating lawyers pay a platform subscription; Drift takes no commission on legal fees.

Give it room to become bigger than us.

The founders are contributing their time to Drift’s public-interest work. We want people with lived experience, legal expertise and practical skills to help shape what comes next.

The aim is to put platform income back into keeping Drift available and helping more people find it.

Drift’s nonprofit arm has a distinct purpose from its commercial work building AI for law firms and public institutions.

Find your role

A purpose needs
accountability.

Planned for January 2027

We are developing the governance for Drift’s nonprofit arm. The measures below describe that plan and will be updated as they are adopted.

01

Purpose and oversight

Document the public-interest purpose, decision-making responsibilities and an oversight process that includes legal and community perspectives.

02

Conflicts and independence

Publish conflict-of-interest rules and document how commercial relationships are kept separate from source selection and lawyer matching.

03

Funding and accountability

Publish how the public-interest work is funded and how funds are used, with a clear distinction from Drift’s commercial activities.

04

Quality, privacy and feedback

Document source review, human oversight, privacy responsibilities and a route for people to raise concerns or challenge an answer.

Who operates Drift today?

Drift Solutions UG currently operates the platform. “Nonprofit arm” describes the public-interest purpose we are developing. The separate legal structure and formal charitable status remain in development.

Drift’s public-interest work grew out of the founders’ experience building Drift Solutions UG. This is the story behind the platform and the people contributing to its next chapter.

Founded by immigrants

Drift was founded by Nia and Shun, who met as neighbors in Berlin and bonded over a shared frustration: building a life across borders shouldn’t be this hard.

Shun invested as Drift’s first angel and Nia went full-time on building Drift.

What we learned

Over the last year, we learned there are three fundamental problems in immigration: people don’t have reliable answers, finding the right lawyer is hard, and lawyers are stuck with outdated technology.
