Privacy policy

How Drift collects, uses, shares, and protects personal data.

Last updated: 5 October 2026

This policy explains how Drift Solutions UG (haftungsbeschränkt) handles personal data when you use driftlegal.ai, chat with our AI assistant, create an account, upload information, request a lawyer match, book a consultation, or contact support.

Who is responsible for your data?

Drift Solutions UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Berliner Straße 69, 13189 Berlin, Germany, is responsible for the personal data used to operate Drift. You can contact us at [email protected].

Independent lawyers are separately responsible for the personal data they use to provide legal advice or representation.

What we collect

Depending on how you use Drift, we may collect:

  • your name, contact details, account information, and preferred language;

  • the immigration questions, facts, goals, and dates you choose to share;

  • documents you upload;

  • AI conversations, draft summaries, corrections, and feedback;

  • lawyer preferences, matching information, bookings, and appointment details;

  • payment status, transaction references, invoices, cancellations, and refunds; and

  • device, browser, IP address, security, and service-use information.

Payment providers normally process full payment-card details. Drift does not need those details to support a booking.

Why we use your data

We use personal data to provide the service you request, including accounts, general information, case summaries, lawyer matching, booking, payment support, security, and customer support.

Our legal bases may include performing a contract, complying with legal obligations, pursuing legitimate interests such as service security, and your consent where required. Immigration information can include sensitive personal data. We only process it where an appropriate legal condition applies to the specific use.

How AI is used

Drift uses AI to understand questions, retrieve approved information, organise customer-provided facts, prepare draft summaries, and support lawyer suggestions. AI output can be wrong, incomplete, or outdated. You can correct your information and ask for human help.

Who receives your information?

We share information only where it is needed to operate the service. Recipients may include:

  • an independent lawyer you choose or are matched with;

  • providers that support hosting, communications, booking, and payments;

  • professional advisers; and

  • public authorities where the law requires disclosure.

Before booking, we limit sharing to information needed for matching, availability, and conflict checks. After booking, the lawyer may receive the summary you approved and relevant documents.

Drift support emails

When Drift passes a conversation to the Drift team, it emails the recent filtered conversation to our support inbox. If you provide an email address, the team can reply to you directly. Email replies stay in email and do not appear in this chat. Our support mailbox uses Google Workspace. Deleting your Drift chat does not automatically delete emails already delivered to the support inbox. You can request deletion of support emails through the contact in our Privacy policy.

International transfers

If personal data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, we use an appropriate legal transfer mechanism and additional safeguards where required.

How long we keep data

We keep personal data only for as long as it is needed for the purpose for which it was collected, legal obligations, security, or legal claims. We then delete or anonymise it under our retention rules.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or receive your personal data, or to object to how it is used. You can also withdraw consent for future processing.

To exercise a right, email [email protected]. You may also complain to the competent data protection authority.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our handling of personal data changes materially. The date at the top shows the latest version.

Global Laureates nominations

When you nominate someone, Drift Solutions UG processes their name, public professional work, contribution, connection to Germany, evidence link and field to research and select Global Laureates. You may optionally leave your name and email so we can ask about your nomination. These details are not used for marketing. Please share public professional information only, not private citizenship, visa, ethnicity, religion or residence-status information.

Nominations and optional contact details are stored privately with our Cloudflare hosting service and kept for up to 180 days, with daily deletion. Published editorial profiles are separate from nomination records. To ask about your information or request deletion, contact [email protected].

Website and Drift service measurements

We count button clicks, calendar opens and supported embedded booking steps as daily totals in our existing Cloudflare hosting. Counts include the page, action, destination, placement and lawyer. For supported embedded calendars we count scheduling-page views, time selections and booking confirmations, without storing the selected time or provider booking details. We do not collect cookies, visitor identifiers, names, email addresses, typed answers or chat text in these totals. These totals help us understand which parts of the website people use and are kept for up to 30 days, with daily deletion. Reports are prepared privately for the Drift team when needed.
