How Drift works: from your question to a lawyer consultation

A step-by-step guide to Drift’s source-backed immigration information, lawyer matching, booking, payment and consultation process.

Drift helps you understand your German immigration options using publicly available information and find an independent immigration lawyer. Drift is Drift’s AI assistant in beta.

1. Start with your question

Describe what you want to understand. You do not need to know the name of a visa or legal process. Drift explains general options from the public sources available to it and shows the supporting help articles. It does not provide personalised legal advice.

2. Find a practical lawyer match

Share your situation in one message. If you need or want a lawyer, Drift uses what you have shared and asks only for missing details about the matter, stage, jurisdiction, responsible authority, language and deadline. You review the details and provide your email before Drift checks matching lawyers and their calendars. Saving your email does not send an email request.

3. Review the options

Matching checks recorded expertise, jurisdiction and language, then reads current availability from the approved booking calendars. Options with unavailable or unverified calendar data, or conflicting service information, are held back. A calendar slot may change and does not confirm that the lawyer will accept your case. Review the stated service and fee, then choose a lawyer to see the calendar. You can also browse the lawyer profiles on the homepage yourself.

4. Book through the calendar

The booking provider shows the available appointments, payment requirements and terms. Drift does not confirm a booking or payment. Rely on the provider’s confirmation.

5. Agree any further work with the lawyer

A first consultation does not automatically create an ongoing mandate. Agree any further representation, scope and fees directly with the law firm.

6. Automatic review when Drift cannot help

If Drift cannot provide a supported answer or find a practical match, it saves the conversation in the Drift team’s review inbox. Review is automatic when Drift cannot provide a reliable answer or fails to understand the situation. The team can reply in the same chat and take over from Drift. No email request is needed. Keep the same browser tab available to read a reply; a response time is not guaranteed. Do not wait for this chat if you face an urgent deadline.
