Already applied and waiting for the immigration authority?

What an immigration lawyer may do after an application has already been filed and what information helps assess the next step.

If you have already submitted your application and are waiting for a response, you may not need to start a new full application.

What can a lawyer do?

Depending on the situation, an independent immigration lawyer may:

  • review what was filed and check for missing information;

  • assess whether the waiting time is unusual;

  • write formally to the immigration authority;

  • request information or access to the file;

  • explain whether a further legal step may be available.

What does it cost?

The cost depends on the work required. The lawyer confirms the scope and binding fee before starting.

What should you provide?

  • the date you applied;

  • the authority handling the application;

  • any application confirmation or reference number;

  • the most recent message from the authority;

  • any deadline, travel, work-right or status concern.

If there is a deadline, refusal, removal risk, uncertain work permission or urgent travel issue, say so immediately.
