THE DUC NGO / RESTAURATEUR
How The Duc Ngo built a €65m restaurant business.
From Kuchi to a restaurant business spanning Berlin, Frankfurt and Baden-Baden, The Duc Ngo built concepts that became places people return to.

The Duc Ngo Group recorded €65 million in net revenue in 2022, according to foodservice’s ranking in the Jahrbuch Außer-Haus-Markt 2022/2023. The group placed 50th among Germany’s largest restaurant businesses. The figure refers to the business covered by the ranking, not Ngo’s personal earnings or the value of his ownership stakes.
Starting with Kuchi
In a first-person interview with Leibniz magazine, Ngo recalled being five when his family fled Vietnam. They settled in West Berlin. He later made the city the base for his restaurant business.
His first restaurant, Kuchi, opened in Berlin in 1999, when he was 24. His business partner Gekko Group describes how he developed further concepts, combining Asian cuisines with French and Peruvian influences.
Building restaurants with their own identities
Kuchi, Madame Ngo, Funky Fisch and 893 Ryōtei became part of the restaurant landscape around Kantstraße. In its September 2026 profile, the MICHELIN Guide describes different restaurants with distinct cuisines, kitchens and customers. These are individual concepts connected by Ngo’s approach to food.
Growing with partners
Expansion beyond Berlin included moriki in Frankfurt, opened in 2013 with Micky Rosen and Alex Urseanu. Gekko records a second moriki in Baden-Baden and Burbank in Frankfurt in 2020.
Partnership is central to the business. The 2023 Hamburger Foodservice Preis announcement says Ngo typically held stakes of 30–50% in his restaurants. The €65 million figure should therefore not be read as money personally received by him, or as the value of a wholly owned company.
The economic contribution is visible in operating restaurants and documented sales. We use the dated 2022 industry figure rather than present a historical result as current revenue.
